Gulf Total Tractebel Power Company (GTTPC) was established to purchase and rehabilitate the existing Taweelah A1 Plant located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at the Taweelah Complex approximately 80 km north-east of Abu Dhabi City, from the capacity of 221.25 MW / 28.4 MGD to its ultimate capacity of 1350 MW / 84 MGD on a build, own and operate basis. The Plant has 8 GE Frame 9 units (3 existing 9151E and 3 new 9171E) of about 100 MW each. Each GT has its Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) fitted with supplementary firing. Steam from the HRSGs is passed to three 3 Alstom backpressure steam turbines (each 200MW) with residual low pressure steam being used in the desalination process.
The new desalination Plant consists of fourteen units, of the Multi-effect Distillate (MED) type, each of 3.77 MIGD capacity giving together with the existing MSF units, each upgraded to 8 MGD, an overall capacity of 84 MIGD. The Plant has achieved Project Commercial Operation Date (PCOD) on 30th April 2003. "Top"
